Dig into Good Food Month in Brisbane
May 20th, 2014 | Meriton Apartments
Calling all foodies! This July brings Australia’s biggest food event to Brisbane – The Brisbane Times Good Food Month 2014. It’s a time to celebrate Australia’s diverse and award-winning restaurants, cafes, wines and local produce in a fun way.
Brisbane Times Good Food Month manager, Natascha Mirosch, said that this year visitors would have the chance to experience around 150 events. Grab a bunch of friends and head to the Night Noodle Markets, do lunch with the kids with Let’s Do Lunch, or try something new with your partner at Hats Off Dinners. There will also be cooking classes, special restaurant deals, celebrity chef appearances, pop up restaurants, high teas, wine tastings and the popular Shoot the Chef photographic competition.
The ever popular Night Noodle Markets come to South Bank this year to show off some of Asia’s best street food with the glittering backdrop of the city’s lights on the Brisbane River. Mirosch said that the Night Noodle Markets are always a favourite. In fact, last year’s Melbourne version of the event expected 5,000 people a night but ended up getting 30,000! Expect fresh, handmade Peking duck pancakes, ramen and more dumpling varieties than you can poke your chopsticks at.
Good Food Month is hosted in various locations across Australia, including Sydney and Melbourne, and the events combined see almost half a million diners experiencing the fabulous world of Australian food. Mirosch expects the Brisbane event to be a hit. “…Brisbane loves food. We’re in the middle of the perfect storm when it comes to Brisbane and food,” she said.
Chef Rene Redzepi of Copenhagen’s Noma restaurant has been confirmed as a key player in the food festival but the full lineup of events and celebrity chefs is yet to be announced. Check back at the Good Food Month website later for more details.
