Short Breaks and Special Events Around Australia
May 21st, 2014 | Meriton Apartments
A short break can be the ideal way to recharge batteries without being away from home or work for too long. Australians can find the perfect mini-vacation without going too far from home, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Blue Mountains will appeal to anyone with a pair of walking boots. Hit the trails in this beautiful part of NSW and marvel at the incredible Wentworth Falls and accompanying vistas.
If timed correctly, visitors can also drop in on one of the Blue Mountains’ festivals: Katoomba is the location for this year’s Blue Mountains Music Festival of Folk, Roots and Blues, which features eight stages and many more artists over three days in March.
Venture into the hinterlands and follow the foodie trail. Start with coffee in Cairns’ Caffiend, pick up some fresh food in Rusty’s Markets and visit the Tarzali Lakes Smokehouse – they have their own platypus colony!
Adelaide also hosts its fair share of festivals throughout the year -it’s the perfect excuse for a short break! The arts festival known simply as the Fringe has close to 1,000 acts to choose from, while the Adelaide Festival includes art and writers’ events during its run up until March 16.
For a museum trip like no other, try Tasmania. Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art is a major draw, attracting more than a million visitors since opening in 2011. There’s lots more to see after the art gallery too, plus accommodation in the grounds to minimise travelling time on this short break.
