Trends in Serviced Apartments
April 8th, 2014 | Meriton Apartments
The serviced apartments sector is changing and is set to see rapid growth as it becomes its own recognised division of accommodation. Yet David Nicholson, founder of VisitRentals, explained that self-catering accommodation like serviced apartments are often misunderstood.
Serviced apartments awareness
Nicholson aims to educate the travelling public about the differences and benefits that serviced apartments offer. He explained that they have more space, connecting rooms and multiple beds. They usually have a kitchen and are self-catered so you can bring your own food to make in the apartment. Serviced apartments are a particularly good economic choice for travellers who are planning to stay for more than a few days, as the rates become discounted the longer they choose to stay.
What is often forgotten is that serviced apartments still offer many of the indulgences of hotels, such as daily housekeeping, on-site facilities like pools, gyms, restaurants and bars, along with convenient 24-hour reception.
Nicholson said that those who use serviced apartments most are families who wish to have multiple, connected rooms, groups of friends that want the same feature and of course corporate travellers who appreciate the extra space, independence and home-like features. It was always thought that long-term business travellers were the main demographic for serviced apartments, yet short-stay corporate travellers are a growing market, according to a Savills UK Serviced apartment Report.
The majority of business travellers still book apartments over the phone or email, although more online booking companies are being developed and advertised to this sector. However, leisure travellers have been enjoying the conveniences of online booking systems for some time.
