Celebrating World Science in Brisbane
March 14th, 2017 | Meriton Apartments
There seems to be a lot of excited energy radiating from Brisbane right now. Why? Because from 22 to 26 March, the World Science Festival will be back in town! This is the second time the Queensland Museum Network has hosted the epic event, with last year’s inaugural festival hosting a whopping 120,367 attendees. If you or your family are into science in a big way, here’s what to see and do in Brisbane in March.
World Science Festival workshops
Prepare to have your brain enriched at the many workshops and events at the World Science Festival. Want to learn about neuroplasticity, fantastic reptiles or how rubbish is shaping our environment? How about the latest space movies, or a Lego robotics challenge? You can experience it all at this festival. For the kids, Street Science! brings an array of geeky delights to the Cultural Forecourt at South Bank Parklands, including food science, forensics and even ferocious explosions!
Visit the Sciencentre
If you have little ones who love learning, then the Sciencentre at Queensland Museum offers an entire day’s worth of hands-on science action. Kids can get involved with light shows, optical illusions and seasonal exhibitions that will open up their worlds to the wonder and importance of science today. No matter your age, check out Queensland Museum’s outstanding seasonal exhibitions such as the incredible Large Hadron Collider Exhibition currently visiting all the way from London. We guarantee you’ll leave feeling awed and inspired.
Go wild at the ice cream lab
If you’re more of a Nigella than a Neil deGrasse Tyson, you can still get your science on in Brisbane! Head straight to Nitrogenie in South Bank, where you can see a daily fresh egg and milk mixture being whipped into delicious ice cream before your eyes using a kitchen mixer and the drama of liquid nitrogen. You can choose from a vast range of flavours and because the ice cream forms so fast, it’s incredibly smooth – and incredibly tasty!
